June 19th, 2008 - As it is the case for feed-handling, there is a continuous race among key players to decrease the latency attached to the end-to-end Complex Event Processing (CEP) for Algorithmic Trading. HPC Platform leverages its expertise for ultra-low latency hardware-based feed-handling to compute, analyse and deliver a conclusion on a real-time basis to another platform that is in a position to trigger an order execution. This processing is located within the Feed-handling HPCP appliance and is performed at the same time as feed-handling: there is no additional latency due to events generation. Demonstration of "hidden strategies" implementation

HPC Platform demonstrates one microsecond latency hardware based events generation for algorithmic trading

The demonstration consists in the integration of trigger rules into the HPC Platform hardware feed-handler for FAST encoded market data. The rules monitor the content of the Exchange order book and trigger the emission of an Ethernet message when a condition on a bid/ask price and its associated quantity is met. This kind of condition is required to implement "hidden strategies" where a trader waits for the desired price to appear in the Exchange order book and sends "immediate or cancel" orders to the market to try to get that price.

A microsecond performance is achieved

The measured time relates to a sequence of consecutive and/or in parallel processings relative to feed-handling and CEP, that are performed on a hardware basis in the HPC Platform appliance :

* IP multicast processing of the incomming market data messages
* FAST decompression & decoding
* Order book message processing
* CEP rule condition check
* UDP message generation and output.

HPC Platform and CEP for Algorithmic Trading

"The HPC Platform appliances demonstrates the lowest latency available today to generate events for CEP applications like Algorithmic Trading. Thanks to HPC Platform expertise on complex derivatives valuation acceleration they can also evaluate much more complex rules to trigger CEP events." says Marc Battyani, co-founder of HPC PLATFORM. click here to return to the top of the page
