September 22nd, 2008 - Star-P and Windows HPC Server 2008 make supercomputing easy, accessible and affordable
ISC's Star-P supports Windows HPC Server 2008
Interactive Supercomputing Inc. (ISC) announced its Star-P® software will support Microsoft’s Windows HPC Server 2008. These technologies can make high performance computing ubiquitous, affordable and much easier to use for a wider range of technical computing users.
Star-P is an application development platform that allows scientists, engineers and analysts to code algorithms and models on their Windows desktops using familiar mathematical software packages such as The MathWorks' MATLAB® or Python, and run them instantly and interactively on parallel clusters and servers running Windows HPC Server 2008. It eliminates the need to re-program in complex languages like C or FORTRAN, or use MPI (message passing interface) to run in parallel, which squelches user productivity and time-to-discovery.
David Rich, VP marketing, ISC: "Star-P running on Windows HPC Server 2008 will make it seamless and easy for our customers to harness the power for parallel computing through a familiar Windows environment without requiring specialized training or skills.”
A preview version of Star-P for Windows HPC Server 2008 is being demoed this week at the 2008 High Performance on Wall Street Conference in New York City. A commercial version is expected to ship later this year.
“Products like Star-P are critical to bringing high performance computing to the mainstream,” said Vince Mendillo, director of HPC marketing at Microsoft Corp. “Star-P’s support of Windows HPC Server 2008 helps ensure that our customers will be able to tap the power of parallel processing from their desktops with a familiar Windows platform and easy-to-use tools.”
“Most of our customers use Windows on their desktops, for many server based functions, and are already skilled in management and administration of Windows operating systems,” said David Rich, ISC vice president of marketing. “Star-P running on Windows HPC Server 2008 will make it seamless and easy for them to harness the power for parallel computing through a familiar Windows environment without requiring specialized training or skills.”
