Well, it looks like the

href="http://blogs.gartner.com/jim_sinur/2010/03/29/the-top-ten-bpm-technologies/"

target="_blank">analysts are coming round to the

view that:

  1. "Business Processes" and their

    supporting technologies cover more than just simple flow-diagrams

    of activities

  2. BAM, BI, BRMS and title="Previous post on CEP as BPM, Sep09"

    href="http://tibcoblogs.com/cep/2009/09/28/is-cep-a-subset-of-bpm/"

    target="_blank">CEP are all "process

    technologies", with varying degrees of management

    control, human interaction, etc.

This is reflected in "BPM vendors"

like TIBCO. TIBCO has an excellent (BPMN flow diagram,

workflow-oriented)

href="http://www.tibco.com/solutions/bpm/default.jsp"

target="_blank">BPM product that targets high

scalability workflows, but also has

(separate, interfaced, with different use cases) title="TIBCO on BI / Business Analytics"

target="_blank">BI and

href="http://www.tibco.com/software/complex-event-processing/default.jsp"

target="_blank">CEP etc technologies and associated

product lines which provide different

process capabilities (e.g. BI: analytics on data - both used in

processes and data about processes; CEP: continuous

event-oriented low-latency processes). All can be viewed from a

BPM perspective (

"BPM+"). Plus there are title="Previous post on CEP SOA BPM patterns, Mar10"

href="http://tibcoblogs.com/cep/2010/03/04/how-does-cep-fit-into-bpm-and-soa-environments/"

target="_blank">multiple patterns of combining these together

(especially BPM and SOA with CEP).

Debate over?
