xCelor launches the XPM3 switch

Chicago - xCelor, the provider of high-frequency trading solutions, has announced its XPM3 switch. The XPM3 enables the removal of the traditional switch from the tick-to-trade path, saving around 1µs in latency and offering extreme determinism. It can also capture data and replay it with high fidelity to recreate network issues for troubleshooting, without the need to move around and insert expensive equipment. The XPM3 builds upon xCelor's xPort switch matrix adding FPGA processing power combining low-latency, increased ROI and high-performance functionality.

With a higher port density, the XPM3 enables latency reliability by replacing the traditional full-service switch in the critical tick-to-trade path. The new 32port switch accommodates larger installations to enable more devices reducing operating costs. The XPM3 provides time stamping of any data passing through the device with real-time rebroadcast or capture for later replay; port multiplexing to send orders directly from up to 31 trading servers to the exchange with 80ns latency and multicast filtering to create a number of multicast groups for traffic optimization/segregation. Time stamping and capture are offered at full 10G/40G line speed; time stamping is to 10ns precision. The device also offers high-fidelity replay (including, e.g. microbursts) for troubleshooting.

The XPM3 aims to eliminate the need for technology upgrades enabling customers to maintain a competitive edge despite the changes in the marketplace. Features of the XPM3 include:

  • Fast switching, both inbound (3ns market data replication) and outbound (80ns order muxing);
  • Hot swappable SSDs (up to five for high-speed local storage, data recording and replay capabilities, etc.);
  • Second PCI slot for customer use with internal connectivity to any port; and
  • In-situ network diagnosis and troubleshooting (e.g., reproduction of microbursts - data recording and replay).
