The CFTC Technology Advisory Committee held a public meeting where the focus was on defining high frequency trading.
Following news last week of the HKEx purchase of the LME; this week saw Equinix invest in a $28.5 mln expansion of its Singapore 2 Data Center. In London, Savvis was gearing up to open its fourth data centre. Forum Trading Solutions acquired PLUS Markets Group's trading technology platform and will set up the venture as a new company. Meanwhile a study by Aite Group concluded that broker-dealer clients prize execution services over algos.

Lime and NovaSparks teamed up to deliver low latency, hardware-based FPGA data feed handlers; MarketPrizm and OneMarketData announced PrizmScope Tick Data Cloud Service; and Exegy Ticker Plant data became available via Thomson Reuters RMDS.
Orange Business Services - Trading Solutions launched a 'pay as you grow' solution; CFN and xCelor employed microwave for low latency data; StreamBase announced Hadoop integration for real-time analytics for big data; and OMGEO addressed new collateral management requirements with ProtoColl.

Last week saw Richard Balarkas leave Instinet, this week's high-profile exit was BATS Chi-X Europe COO Paul O'Donnell, who announced his return to Morgan Stanley in New York (British weather anyone?). Deltix appointed Paul Strehle as Business Development Manager; KVH selected Christopher Young as Senior Vice President of Service Provider and International Market Group; and SocGen appointed Brian Curran to a new role as Head of Portfolio Trading and Quantitative Distribution.
