    Potash Corp, the worldâs largest fertilizer producer, announced today that members of the union representing its workers (United Steelworkers (USW)) voted to ratify the Nov.7, 3-year collective agreement, retroactive to May 2008. For the company the cost of the settlement is similar to the one tendered in July, and does not include âcommodity based bonusesâ based on Potashâs net income.

    Calgary-based Agrium, North America's 3rd largest fertilizer producer, announced a sevenfold increase in Q3 profits on record fertilizer prices and acquisitions. The company said net income soared to $367mln from $51mln a year ago or $2.31 from $0.38 in a statement this morning. Sales increased three fold to $3.18bln, in part as a result of Agrium purchase of UAP Holding Corp. ``All three business units contributed record earnings with our recent acquisitions enhancing the long-term fundamentals present in agriculture,'' said Michael Wilson, the company CEO, in the statement.

    Potash One announced today that itâs still committed to completing its Legacy project in Saskatchewan in spite of the challenging financial conditions. The planned mine will use the solution technique of circulating salt water through the workings to dissolve potash and pump it to the surface. Solution mining has lower capital costs, a shorter time to production and lower risk, however the company said it is developing a scaleable model so that it âcan avail itself of lower capital expenditure requirements in this credit-challenged environment.â The 97.4k acre Legacy projectâs estimated Indicated resources are 36.8mln tonnes of potash and estimated inferred resources are 360.4mln tonnes of potash. The project is located 80 km northwest of Regina, near the largest potash solution mine in the world owned by Mosaic Potash.
