  • Fed tightening 'not going to happen' -- Gartman LetterPosted:10/07/2009 12:23 GMT by NeedToKnowNews
US debt futures markets are pricing in a 30% chance of a Federal Reserve rate hike, but that is not going to happen, said Dennis Gartman in his daily The Gartman Letter.
The dollar remains strong on Monday after rallying in reaction to the better-than-expected US jobs data, which raised expectations the Fed could move to tighten policy possibly as early as August.
"We shall mince no words here: this is not going to happen," Gartman said.
"Nonetheless, given the enormous short US dollar positions that are out there, some unwinding of those positions was obviously, reasonably warranted," he said.
